Canada Post Announcement - The Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) has started a national strike. Canada Post’s operations are temporarily suspended as of 27 November 2024. While we are doing all we can to deliver your parcels, including changing our last mile delivery partner, please expect delays. Description

Measures: 15cm diameter

Science doesn't get any cooler than this - Tesla's plasma ball is a lamp and science experiment in one, as it's a colourful way of observing electrical discharges. The globe itself is filled with three inert gases (neon, argon and xenon), and a high frequency alternating current electrode is in the centre. Place your fingertips on the lamp and watch the filaments glow.

Harness lightning and let it flow to your fingertips! Plasma filaments from the electrode at the centre of the ball are attracted to any conductor, including a human hand.

The plasma globe was invented by Nikola Tesla after his experimentation with high-frequency currents in an evacuated glass tube for the purpose of studying high voltage phenomena, but the modern versions were first designed by Bill Parker. Tesla called this invention an inert gas discharge tube. Others may call it a plasma ball or thunder ball and appreciate it simply because its awesome.

This thunder ball is approximately 15cm in diameter. It plugs directly into the wall (using the 12V DC adaptor 500mA that is included) and should last over 1,000 hours (and probably a lot longer, we really give our demo at our shop a workout). You can also set it to "sound" mode, where it only activates when a loud sound is detected. Place it next to a speaker for an epic lightshow.

Warning: this item is not a toy and should not be placed near sensitive electronic equipment, and is not suitable for people with a pacemaker.

Recommended for ages: 8+
